I bought XSI foundations version 6 from Softimage and several months later , about the time it took me to finish several of the pricy training packages Autodesk bought XSI (just like every other serious ompetitors 3d package). They discontinued all the old versions and as begain to start my project I had to re-install windows. The online activation server was removed by autodesk and replaced with a link to buy another verson for 3K. I have a legal copy I saved up for and was broke for months inorder to get it, complete with recpet and license key and it is not possible to install and use ever again. Autodesk tells me to call XSI's disconnected phone number for support and laughs. I will never buy overpriced 3D software again and never any software that uses online activation. I wish I'd just used an illegal cracked copy and not sacrificed months of my life and thousands of dollars only to have the software that I just purchased blatantly stolen before I could actually use it in production. I figured investing in the verson of some good software that I could find a way to afford was fair and I refused to steal software. I now use Blender and will never purchase another Autodesk product.

erm, just decided to update comment- seeing how autodesk buying avid is probably responsible for death of foundation and buying max would be like buying a different sweet in the same candy shop (sigh) it just gets to me because xsi toon shader is the best i know, more to the point its ink shader is, and blenders is pretty poor- despite having learned blender and seeing that its feature set is superior in terms of being able to cover every requirement (great simulation, even water, good navigation logic, twisty/bendy/stretchy bones). there remains that constant urge to use xsi- but as a hobby modeler, and my small wallet- it still hurts like a bitch dammit, could use pirate stuff easy but the principle is blender a good will software and it would seem kinda cool to see it make a full blown movie one day so i'll stick to it! besides the layouts of new age 3ds max sucks and windows newer o.s seems to make older software buggier on each release- at least blender having its own runtime, seems immune so far...

some of us very much appreciate your involvement... past, present and future. as for your "not [being] in the thick of things" comment, i'd say it's all relative.

either way, i'm sure you'll involvement will only grow especially when everybody wakes up and realizes we have Connection Machines on our desktops. OK, i'm getting nostalgic for something i didn't really experience "in the day" except for Jurassic Park. furthermore, there's no way of knowing the percentage of us that will reach or surpass what Karl Sims did...

First! ;o)

i saw a sticky!

this might be interesting. combine this with a tip given in one of the HScript vids... i'm thinking 02_enviroment_variables. anyway, should be able to proceduralize the assignment of the integer param by using H's built in node naming increment feature. then just copy and paste and you don't have to mess with any param's in the AttributeCreate.

other than that, i want to go to a "safe place" too, especially in VOPs!

great work. thanks again!

I haven't been able to get an error log from Houdini (because I've never looked), but I haven't run the assignment of parameters in the command line of Houdini to see if the same thing happens. The idea of mapping the 3DConnexion device to a mouse output then to a mouse chop might just be the key.

Not sure if polling too often is causing the issue, but it could be assigning a value directly to a parameter too often might be the issue. Maybe sending the info to chops would resolve this issue. Definitely need to test this.

BTW, did you notice one of the comments on this video mentioned my site? Very cool!
