About
There isn’t much to tell but I suppose if you took the time to click on the “About” link you deserve something, if not a reason for the site.
I’ve been into 3D for a while, initially getting into it during grad school (which was in no way associated with 3D, but rather for genetics – hence the allusion in the site name). I started with Bryce 3D then landed on 3DSMax for a while. I wasted a lot of time toying with a lot of packages (Max, Maya, and XSI Foundation) rather than focusing on creating things, but I enjoyed learning the techniques and how each application did things. I stayed with Blender a while since it was free and open source and during that time shared with the world what I was learning about it. I had a great time with Blender since I got to meet a lot of neat people, write for BlenderNation, and go to Siggraph 2006 to be a part of the Open Source Graphics Booth to promote Blender. I got into the programming/shader side of 3D with Sunflow, even going so far as to create the wiki for it. Eventually I started to get frustrated at my own lack of produced work and my lack of skills in a production level software since I still have this dream that one day I’ll be working “in industry”. So I started to focus on this dream by moving to Houdini Apprentice (free) and Apprentice HD ($100) (both for non-commercial work only). You can also hear my thoughts about a variety of CG related subjects on some of the cgRoundup podcast. Lately, I’ve found little time for CG, but in order to try to have a bit more fun I’ve gotten back into D&D.
I’m glad you took the time to visit!
