Animation Doodles

I was reading Animation Mentor’s Tips and Tricks (done by Shawn Kelly in the monthly newsletter) and I’ve found it fascinating to see into the mind of an actual animator. I’ve actually never focused much on the art of animation, being interested primarily in the technical aspects of it, so these tips and tricks are interesting because it shows the amount of work that goes into actually doing character animation. After reading certain tips I thought I would do some rough thumbnails of an animation which lead to some general doodling (the results of which I’ve posted below). I’m not finished with all of Shawn’s tips but they certainly spark my interest in trying my hand at character animation. Luckily, Houdini has a toon character asset that is rigged quite nicely, so I might mess with that for starters.

Constraining Cloth Addendum

I was so caught up with showing how you can get your grouped points output to a group node I didn’t show the easier way to stitch cloth with the stitch constraint (and an issue that may arise). So instead of calling do-overs and doing the whole video again just to add that, I’ll just do a 2 minute supplement to the video which you can find here.
Cloth Intro And Exporting Simulations

Boy did I wrestle with Houdini’s cloth a while before I had the nerve to do a video about it. I mis-spoke about the tristrip being able to break up geometry (it doesn’t), but I think it’s pretty solid as far as what I’ve discovered on my own and what I read in the help files (especially when it came to the guide geometry). The video is pretty big which I’m not too comfortable with, but I was on a roll and my desire to split these two topics into two videos went right out the window when the two topics blended together. Given my desire to not tick off my web host by sucking bandwidth I think I might remove a few older Blender videos to start making way for Houdini ones. You can find it here.
